Editing the commercial

Today in AICE media, we couldn’t do our editing. The computers are broken and the editing software isn’t functioning properly. Last class, though, we did get some editing it. During that class, I went out and re-filmed some scenes and then came back in to edit. During that editing time, I helped trying to make the split screen. We had to call our teacher over because we couldn’t figure it out. Even she couldn’t get it to work properly. She did, though, teach me and my group how to do a split screen so that’s good. I also started to plan out what to do next class. We will start to edit on the school laptops because the computers aren’t working, like I’ve said.
When we get the laptops, we will start editing again. My plan for the editing is to import it to the computer and make the split screen work so far. I will also add the audios in and cut all the clips to make them line up! We will add the music in too and make everything coherent. Last class, we imported all the video clips along with the audio clips. Once we found out the computers weren’t functioning, we put them onto our google drives. We also e-mailed them to ourselves so make sure we do actually have them. When we actually edit stuff, we import the files from the back ups. Because one of our members has her own SD card, we probably won’t have to use them but it’s called back up for a reason! I’m really excited to see our finishing project!
As for the actual editing, we will hopefully start by next class
I’m a bit upset about the deadlines not matching up because of our schools computers. I really wanted to start on the music video but that might be delayed too. This is upsetting because I wanted to get to the editing as fast as possible but it seems that’s going to be rough to do. I hope that the editing goes quicker then the filming did. We have a lot to do so that may be a problem in the long run. I’m super excited to see how the filming looks when it’s all put together! We’ ll keep in mind that it’s our first time filming and editing our own film so if it’s a little bad then whatever. When we get in the next class, we’ll get to editing ASAP. I hope the laptops will be working next class so we can get some work down. I’m very excited to get editing!

Filming the commercial

During the filming process I was co-director and camera person. I helped figure out where to put the camera to get the best shot. I also helped film some shots like the tracking shot, and all the low angle shots. I helped get props to the actors during one clip shots. I also assisted some of the audio clips. The ones I helped with were the drinking sounds and the slogan for it. I helped co-direct along side one of my group mates. During that stage, I helped produce the storyboard and the scenes of the film. I also helped with what scene should go where and when. I came up with our fake slogan for Gatorade which is “get yourself some Gatorade!”
I helped decide what music to put into the commercial. I also helped research some stuff to put into the video like the props, editing style and more! During filming, I brought the props out and helped set the camera in the correct spots. I also made sure there were no people in the shots and no people talking in the audio shots. I helped carry the equipment out on the second day. On the days we filmed it was hot and humid. There were a lot of people outside with us because we all thought it would be best to film on the field instead of in the school itself. We did have plans if it rained that day which luckily it did not. Those plans were to film on the stairs and in the halls! Though that wouldn’t have been ideal, that would have worked.
As I said before, we filmed on a hot day so we all got sunburnt and it was very hot out. So on the second day, we brought our waters out along with all the props and camera stuff. When we filmed on the first day, some shots were lost so on the second day we had to go out and re-shoot those ones. Those shots included all the audio films, the tracking shot, and a few more. When we went out the second time, there were less people outside since almost everyone went inside to edit. So the second filming day went better and we got all the shots redone in a half  hour. During the second day, I carried the camera outside and filmed many shots. Those shots include the audio shots, some of the race shots and the drinking scenes. Since we only had two bottles of Gatorade, I used water to make the Drinking audio. I had so much fun making this commercial so far! Im excited to see how my next project goes.

Storyboard

Today in AICE Media Studies, my group and I planned our storyboard for our commercial. While three people were planning the storyboard, Leila was typing our the blog. Story boarding was a fun, but tedious process. My group and I met before to brainstorm a general plan for the commercial. We decided to storyboard a commercial that focus on track and field athletes and Gatorade. Also, we made a storyboard for our backup plan of a soccer and tennis commercial. The following conventions will be used in the Gatorade commercial of track and field athletes:

Editing lesson blog

In class today, we learned about how the camera works, how to edit, attach sounds , tittles and how to import/export videos and sounds. The camera we will be using is a Cannon. We learned how to attach the camera to the tripod and how the camera works. Behind the flip screen, there is a place to put the SD card in. There is also a silver button to press when we start or stop filming. We learned what importing, dumping, rendering and raw footage means. Importing is to take your footage and put it into the editing studio we’re using. Dumping means to take the footage from the SD card and put it onto your computer. Rendering is when all the aspects you made to your film get put together and become one. Raw footage is your takes without any editing on it.
We learned how to edit in pinnacle studios. To import the videos, you have to put the SD card into the reader and plug it into the computer. Put the videos into a separate folder and the put it into pinnacle studios. Don’t put the video directly into pinnacle studios from the camera, it might not save correctly. If you can’t find your videos from the camera, check AVCHD folder and look for stream. Open pinnacle studio and click new movie. Take your imported videos and put them in to pinnacle studio. Pull the curser to where you want to cut it from and hit the razor that says split clip. Make sure the yellow box is around the part you don’t want. Right click on the clip to speed up, slow down or reverse the clip.
AV track 1 is for titles, AV track 2 is for the videos, AV track 3 is for the music. To attach sound to your clip, detach audio. To detach audio, right click on the clip and hit separate. Delete the audio you don’t want. Do the same for the audio you except take the video and delete it. To make a tittle scene, go to the “T” symbol. Click ok and enter what you want the tittle to be. Let it load and move it to track 1, it will load again there. Add motion and effects on it by right clicking. Finally, to save, go to file and hit save as. Name the title and save to your file. To export it, save it as an MPEG4, make sure it’s marked as best quality. Save it as the title the teacher wants and click ok. Minimize pinnacle studio and watch your movie to make sure everything is ok. If it is, hit exit on pinnacle studio.

Planning blog for Gatorade commercial

Today in media studies we did more research. We also discussed our plans for the commercial. We talked about where we would film, the props and the makeup, though that’s not a requirement. We talked about who would do what in the video too. We chose to plan this out today and not on filming day so we wouldn’t waste time deciding what to do. When we film, it may rain so we need a back up place to film in, if it does happen. Our ideas are still not concrete but this is what we had planned so far.

Props:
Since my group and I decided to produced a Gatorade commercial, our main prop is a Gatorade drink. Other props we will include are a soccer ball, tennis racket and tennis balls.

Costumes:
In our commercial, we will have two of our group members as the subject. Our actors would wear athletic clothes. They would either wear athletic shorts or athletic leggings with light color tank top or a cotton t-shirt. They would also wear running shoes or tennis shoes. We might have our actors wear sweat bands or headbands to keep their hair out of their face. If we could not obtain sweat bands or headbands, our actors would wear their hair in a ponytail.

Schedule:
On 10/8/19, our group research conventions and codes of sports drinks commercial.
On 10/11/19, our group establish the props, costumes, schedule, location list, and backup plan.
On 10/15/19, our group will create the storyboard for the 30 seconds commercial.
On 10/22/19, our group will film and record the necessary shots for our commercial.
On 10/24/19, our group will edit and add the final touches to the commercial.

Location List:
Our main location is the track field. At the track field, we will film our two actors before, during and after running the track. This would help emphasized the need of Gatorade to have energy at practice. Also, we would film our two actors kicking a soccer ball or doing soccer drills.

Our second location is the stairwell in front of the media center. At this location, we will film our two actors playing basketball and hitting a tennis ball against the wall. This would help us show athletes from different sports can gain energy from Gatorade.

Backup Plan:
If  there the weather is not good or preferable, then our location will be the area by the stairwell closes to building 505 or the grass area between the auditorium and building 5. We would quickly film our actors passing a soccer ball. If one of our members are absent, then one of the actors would take over the position of camerawoman.

Research Blogs: Commercial Conventions

Today in AICE Media Studies, we were assigned to produce a commercial of a product of a popular brand or a PSA about vaping prevention. My group and I decided to produce a commercial about Gatorade because we found it was easiest to do on our school's campus. There are four people in the group: Hannah, Emma, Leila and Hailey.

In Gatorade commercials, the elements of the commercial usually create a dramatic and serious tone. Most of the subjects in the commercials are wearing sports uniforms. For example, track athletes usually wear shorts, tank tops, and sweat bands on their head and around their arms. Most of the time, the commercial would film an exhausted athlete. This would emphasize the importance and the effects of the product. The establishing shot would usually establish the location of the practice. For example, they would have the establishing shot at a track field for a track athlete. Also,  sports commercials would consists of long shots and medium close ups to emphasize the athletes' actions.

The lighting in sports commercials is usually harsh, bright stage light of an athlete. This helps develop a serious tone because it makes the commercial more dramatic. The lighting design produces more shadows to make the product more appealing on screen. The color design of the commercials usually consists of dull colors with a pop of brighter colors such as reds, oranges, blues i.e., to emphasize the the product.

The sound in sports commercials is usually a voice-over expressing the feelings of the athletes. Diegetic sounds and ambient sounds are usually louder than they would normally be. For example, walking/running, the sounds of breathing, and the sound of someone drinking. In the commercials, dialogue is usually muffled but is still present. Sometimes there is an influencer giving a motivating speech or there are sounds of sport crowds in the background.

This is an example of the all the elements used in a sports commercial.

Introductory

Hi everyone who sees this! My name is Hailey and Im in 10th grade at FLHS. I like to draw and play video games! I draw cartoons and fan arts of characters from shows that I like. I also like to cook and read books. My favorite book is A Tale Dark And Grim. Its also a series of three books but I like the original the best out of all of them. My favorite genre of movies and books to read are Horror and mystery! I really like the suspense aspect of them both. When Im out of high school, I'd like to be a character designer! I also really like horror stuff, like Halloween Horror Nights and Haunted houses!
As for my dislikes, I don't dislike much.  I dislike having to do chores in my house. I do like helping my mom out so I think that evens it out! I also dislike math! Math is my worst subject, though I think that comes with being an artist. Like, you either have to be good at math or good at art, and nothing in between. Unless you're a special breed then, lucky you. I also dislike Mondays, like every high schooler and that comic cat, you know who. I dislike bugs too, since I live somewhere where there are a lot of bugs, Ive grown to hate them! Finding them in my room is the worst, even more so if your room is as cluttered as mine. I dislike loud places and being in crowds is the worse!
In school, at the time of this writing, we are almost done with  the first quarter. For my classes, Im taking the general math(algebra 2), science (chemistry) and language arts (AICE language arts). For my other classes, Im taking AICE media studies, Drawing and painting 2, AICE global perspectives and Spanish 2. My favorite class is, you guessed it, Drawing and painting 2! I like to think my grades are good, but some people thing that getting Bs and Cs aren't as good. And I do agree but, I try so, Cs are perfectly fine. I like art class because I get to draw in it! My most recent art project is scratching a drawing into plexiglass. I really like how mine is turning out so far. I think the teachers are really nice too! I hope to make this blog a fun place for me to document my journeys in! until next time!
